Mary Powers is the Principal of the Santa Cruz Adult School. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish and a Master’s in Teaching, and has spent the most of her 30 years as an adult school teacher with specialization in English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL), Spanish-language Citizenship classes, GED Test Preparation and ESL Parent Education. As a school administrator Mary has worked on new program development, marketing, grant writing, report preparation and Workforce Investment Act implementation efforts. She is an active participant in the Western Association of Schools and Colleges Accreditation Team, the Compliance Review Team, the School Advisory Committee and Leadership Team. Her strong commitment to both English and Spanish literacy as a means for individuals to improve their lives and work options fits well with the goals of the Workforce Investment Board.
